Basement Floors Settlement of ground level and below grade (basement) floors is a very frequent problem, and Concrete Jack's slab jacking crews are the best equipped people in the state of Virginia to correct concrete floor settlement. Slabjacking, which is also known as mudjacking, concrete leveling and concrete raising, works by injecting grout under settled concrete to fill any voids (air spaces) and then push the concrete up, leaving you with a structurally sound floor that you can use immediately. Grout is injected through golfball-sized holes in the floor, and can be done through just about any floor covering without having to remove it.
The diagrams below show how Concrete Jack's process works to lift and support settled interior floors when holes are drilled through the top.
When your floor is poured, it has fill material under it. Often, this fill material is not compacted.
Over time, the fill material naturally settles until to a stable point of compaction. This causes an air space to form under the concrete floor, leaving it unsupported.
The floor can't hold itself up, so it starts to settle until it wedges against the wall or runs into the top of the fill material. The dashed line (1) shows the original level of the floor.
Concrete Jack's crews drill strategically-placed holes through the floor, and inject grout through the holes. Hoses (1), which are 2 inches in diameter are run through windows or doors from the outside, so the only equipment inside of your home is an electric drill. All other equipment stays on the outside. If you have a wooden floor, we core drill the floor, mark the cores and set them aside to be glued back into the same spots. For tile, we cut 2" squares, which can then be replaced with 2" squares of tile of your choosing. For carpet, the carpet can be pulled back prior to our arrival and restretched afterwards, or we can cut 2" 3-sided squares which are folded back during the injection process and then glued back down after lifting is done.
After the floor has been lifted, the grout injection holes are cleaned out and patched with cement. Floor coverings can then be restored immediately. |
